Artwork
During this "down time" when I don't have much time to be creative here on the blog, due to juggling of my time between work, the twins, and alienating my family with the dvd I'm working on, I decided to post some of my amusing artwork for your enjoyment.
These are crude drawings I did with only my mouse and Paint program.
This is a sample of a comic strip I would draw when I was in Junior High and High School. For some strange reason, I found it funny to draw Sesame Street characters with murderous tendancies. And not simply killing people, but going so far as drawing muppets involved in dismemberment, cannibalism, bludgeoning, etc. The typical comic strip would go as follows: Grover & Bert would be minding their own business, only to have Mr. Hooper anger or annoy them in some form or fashion, and then the mayhem would ensue. This photo depicts Manny as our victim to Grover & Bert's maniacal tendencies. ( Manny's ears are red because I always drew him with sunburned ears - another story for another time) Later, my classmates caught on and strangely, they liked it too. Next thing you know, I'm drawing flip-book style action sequences of Grover punching off the head of someone into Bert's mouth, who eats it and then vomits it back into Grover's mouth. And I'm talking, girls would ask me to draw this. No, I'm not kidding. The more violent I could make it, the funnier it would be to me that people actually requested it.
This is a drawing of what it might look like if the Playaz' became Larry Holmes's corner men in his inevitable return to the ring to fight George Foreman.
This is my drawing depicting the time Manny's father appeared before the enitre high school dressed as Willie Nelson, unbeknownst to Manny, to sing a song he had written as the theme to our annual Fall Festival, "Frog Hollow". It still ranks as one of the greatest moments of my life.
This drawing was my idea for a Playaz Christmas card, which spawned many of the holiday photos you have seen on this blog.
This is a drawing I made as a rough idea of what our website would be like (before this blog came about and I realized I had no idea about anything to do with HTML). Here is a sneak peek at what our website will actually look like (just the first draft) www.playazball.com .
I'm not sure how to explain this one, except that it always made me laugh. Somehow we got on the discussion about how we are all worried about the well-being of our kids, and how do you know who is and who isn't a pedophile. I think I mentioned that clowns in the children's entertainment field would be suspect with me, but how would you know? I'm sure there are plenty of good guys who don't deserve that kind of scrutiny. So I drew this business card, that would include a pledge that would help ease the parents' minds when hiring for their kid's next birthday.

Phil? What can I say? From one warped mind to another, I totally love your stuff.
I didn't want to laugh.
I didn't, really.
but I just couldn't contain it
awesome just doesn't cover the wonders here.
Kind words, all.
In 8th grade, I had an entire folder filled with the Bert & Grover strips I had drawn - hundreds of them. My mom found them and went berserk. She was convinced I was destined to become a serial killer, and not someone with merely a warped sense of humor, and threw them all away. To this day, it still bugs me they are gone, and now she says "Oh, I would never have thrown those away.." Now, she thinks everything I did back then was a priceless work of art. Thanks, mom.
Speaking of serial killers, don't forget that John Wayne Gacy was a clown. Also that Wayne is the most common name among sociopaths and serial killers. Wait a minute, isn't one of the Playaz named Wayne???
Funny you mention that cube. Wayne's nickname is derived from Wayne Williams, the famous serial killer from Atlanta. Wayne has never killed anyone that we know of. Perhaps Rob can shed light on it's origin.
No Rob, I do not recall your wife being one of those requesting such a drawing.
Actually, the story of Wayne's origin is a bit more twisted than that. I have no time to elaborate right now but in the future the truth will be known. Let's just say that Art Jones, S Drake, Greg Hendrix and free fudge were all part of the process...
Relieved that my bride was not part of all that foolishness, I am,
Rob
The irony is that my nickname is that of a serial killer, while I am not in fact a serial killer.
There is no way to describe the awesomeness that I have just read.
Thank you Phil. If you're ever in the D.C. area, Nats tickets are on me.
That is a generous offer, Cap'n, and one I will take you up on next time I'm in D.C.
Playaz Ball in DC one year Phil?? We could make a speach on the Mall.
What's a speach??
It is when the Playaz make a "speech". It is so awesome that it is spelled different. Like when something is "phat".
Spell check has ruined about the only good skill I had from School.
